Politicians are compelled to kill one another by Fear of the Dark’s Fear of the Dark’s Asylum to Shoot Strangers. The Clansman starts off with great guitar work reminiscent of Mark Knopfler. Bruce Dickinson and Adrian Smith’s story is based on the true story of Icarus and his father Daedalus.

The Name of the Rose, as well as parts of Frank Herbert’s Dune, are both referenced by Steve Harris. The band’s stirring symphony, “Rime of the Ancient Mariner,” is an excellent way to summarize Samuel Taylor Coleridge‘s epic poem. Iron Maiden’s lyrics, like CliffsNotes, are filled with breakneck guitar soloing by Bruce Dickinson and breakneck drumming by Nick Mason. The song is told from the perspective of the woman, and she describes her fear and despair as she awaits her death. Iron Maiden is a song about a young woman who is about to be executed by being placed in an iron maiden, a medieval torture device.
